6/11/09 Eight straight ain’t it great
It’s Hammer Time
I sincerely apoligize for my lack of entries. I’m back up to five days a week at work again and still spending any available time at the other house trying to get it ready to rent.
The Rockies are back at Coors Field tomorrow and I know a bunch of people who are more than ready. We wanna see some of that “Road Trip Magic” at home. I’m not bitch’n but the home crowd has witnessed it’s share of losses this season and we wanna personally watch the Rockies play like they’ve been playing.
I mentioned in my last entry that it was my 300th entry. The Rockpile Rant has had over 107,000 visits since October 2008 and over 1500 comments so far.
Thanks to all of you who read my ramblings about the Rockies and life. I’m digg’n what I do and I can’t wait until I’m able roll like I used to roll. Soon folks, very soon.
I’m not really a baseball draft guy. A fella only has so much time to devote to stuff and I tend to start to pay attention to players once they hit AA and AAA. I do wish them all luck though.
Does part their success stem from the guilt of contributing to Clint Hurdle being fired?
Is it the fear of what Jim Tracy will do to players who don’t perform.
Or is it just out of respect for our new coach and each player wanting to show him they deserve the right to play at Coors?
Now that I think about it it’s probably best not to over analyze it. Let’s just roll with it. A win is a win and we desperately need them.
Maybe if the Rockies make it to ten in a row the rest of the country might start to take notice. There is a serious lack of recognition for this team and any of it’s accomplishments.
I’m a realist, so I can’t wait for the day the Rockies win their first World Series because that’s what it will take to get some respect. Well that and a few winning seasons 🙂
Nice job Huston, keep it up brotha.
That’s ok with me because if you happened to listen to Matt Holliday on the Jim Rome radio show today you wouldn’t have heard Matt say anything nice about Colorado.
Just remember Matt, the fans loved you here. It was you who stopped caring at the end.
Rockies are 19-18 on the road. Seems odd but I’m not complaining.
Rockies have now won eight in a row which ties a team record from you know when.
Friday is almost here, and then I’ll be there…You know where.
Show us why we should never stop believing..D
It was a huge success and my kids are loaded up with toys and clothes to last another year (I hope).
I have to say, RockBand is really freggin cool. My wife has this thing where she can’t watch video games for long because of the rapid eye movement jacks her up.
Not only can she watch Rockband, the kicker is……she really digs playing it.
I only wish you could pick the songs that “you” want to hear. Anyways, just thought I’d give the game a plug. Great family entertainment, plus it gets your kids listening to a lot of the music you listened to growing up, you know, the good stuff.
You need to play this game, I’m never wrong about this stuff.
My mother and father-in-law gifted me a really cool book about ballparks for X-mas.
The pictures in this book are incredible. There’s some history about the parks too.
Heavy to hold, but fun to read.
Below are a few pictures from Colorado’s own Coors field.
I work right beside a sporting goods store and I decided to walk over and see if they had any Rockies gear on sale, you know the deeply discounted crap they’re desperate to get rid of.
They had a whole bunch of Matt Holliday Jerseys priced at half off.
Huh, only half off? I don’t understand, unless your planning on flying to California and getting Matt to autograph the Jersey, then fly back and hang it on your wall, in my opinion the jersey is almost worthless.
Good luck with trying to do that, it’s not easy to get Matt Holliday to sign anything. While he was a Rockie and before home games started, it seemed like he would hide underneath the Stadium until the last minute then come onto the field.
The dude rarely took batting practice, sorry Matt, but it’s true. I’m not hating, I’m just stating.
Half off, give me a freggin break.
I did manage to find a good deal, I found a Rockies hoodie for a great price.
Actually the price was so good I bought two.
Just wait a year Tampa Bay Ray fans, you’ll be able to find all kinds of good deals on baseball stuff.
It’s Todd Helton’s pink baseball bat
. Click on the link to go straight to the auction. Last I looked it was at $50.00 plus shipping. The auction ends this Saturday around noon.
This bat deserves to be owned by a Rockies fan.
Ok, so someone who doesn’t have any kids step up to the plate here and give this thing a good home.
Your probably the only ones with any cash left after X-mas.
This bat was signed and used by Colorado Rockies #17 Todd Helton on Mother’s Day 2008 in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness.
There were seven Rockies players who used the pink bats on Mother’s day.
Todd is my favorite player and I would love to be the owner of this bat. Like I said, I’m telling you about it because I feel a loyal Rockies fan should give her a good home.
Here’s a link to the story on MLB.com….. Pink bat story by Mark Newman. I wonder if Todd kept the other bat?
Hmmm, who knows I could always give him a ring and ask him?
107 days till the Mobile Blog Unit heads down to Tucson.
This is not the Mobile Blog Unit, but it’s cool——–>>>>>
Are you curious as to what kind of deal the Rockies offered Matt Holliday?
18 million for four years and a player option worth 12.5 million if he wants to play the fifth year.
Here’s a quote from O’Dowd:
“We felt very good about our offer. We respect what Matty did. We didn’t and do not have any hard feelings.”
I think that was a fair offer.
They should have offered him less and made it performance based. I think the majority of sports contracts should be performance based.
Their offer didn’t matter, most likely no offer mattered, they never stood a chance.
Lets just respect the mans decision, remember it costs more to live on the west coast.
Ok, this is getting to be old news. On to something more fun.
<—How about a doormat that reflects your mood?
Tell me why this guy–> didn’t just let go of the pole?
Check out this series of pictures. Even my worst day was never this bad.
I guess the crane driver didn’t calculate the waterlogged factor.
The little one lifts out ok.
See you just need the right tool for the job.
At least you would think.
If your taking you kids cloths shopping you might want to avoid this place.
I still can’t figure what the two dots are for??
Nobody is saying for sure who the Rockies might get in exchange for Holliday as the Rockies have only reached a tentative agreement with the A’s.
Some of the names mentioned are reliever Huston Street, lefty Greg Smith and outfielder Carlos Gonzalez.
That is all I’ve heard right now..I don’t think this trade was as much for getting someone, as it was to avoid paying Holliday his 13.5 million due on his contract for the upcoming season.
Nuggets vs Grizzlies
I went to the Denver Nuggets game last night with Krista and Hunter. I’m not going to do a huge game recap because it just wasn’t all that exciting.
At least the game part.
The Nuggets get the win over the Grizzlies 100-90.
Here’s the deal, the game up until the end was way closer than it should have been. Chauncey Billups put up 16 points which is great, but he was 2 of 13 from field goal range and 2 of 6 from three-point range.
At least he was nailing his foul shots.
Props again to Nene who shot 8 of 10 from field goal range for 18 points. Mello was Mello. We didn’t get backstage this game.
14,359 people attended this snoozer.
I will tell you I was lucky enough to snag something.
One of the promotions during the commercial breaks is the Parachute drop.
It’s just a T-Shirt rolled up into a tube.
I finally freggin caught one.
I’ve been trying for years.
It’s not that I suck that bad, I just don’t usually sit on the first level. That’s my story.
Catching that shirt was at least the equivalent of snagging a live foul ball don’t you think?
I didn’t say home run ball, I just said foul ball.
Here’s what the T-Shirt looks like unrolled.
I’m not sure what I got all excited about. It’s never going to fit.
Now that I think about it, they should just toss an un-wrinkled T-Shirt down from the rafters with out a parachute.
It’s not like it would hurt anyone.
I mean, would you just look at the wrinkles in this shirt.
I finally saw Referee Violet Palmer. the first ever female NBA Referee.
#12 Violet Palmer.
On April 26, 2006 she was the first woman to officiate a major men’s sport at the top professional level. It was a Pacer vs Nets game.
I can’t give her all the credit, but if you watched this game you had to notice the officiating was horrible.
Violet was one of the referees working on December 19,2006. There was a brawl that evening between the Nuggets and the Knicks.
All ten players that were on the floor were ejected.
Some call her inconsistent, she does have her critics, but who doesn’t.
While I was sitting in my seat, my wife pointed out an odd fella wearing a Nuggets Jersey.
Can you spot him?
Meet Jazz the Clown.
Say what you want, but I like this guy.
First off, anyone with balls enough to wear that outfit in public is ok with me.
But to top it off, he’s sporting a JR Smith jersey and he’s at the game with his son. That’s cool.
It’s like the Nuggets version of Homie the Clown and I love it.
Can I just say…
Jazz you Rock Man !
I’d like to hear more on details on Matt Holliday’s departure.
It’s kind of sad, but we all knew it was coming.
Do you think they’ll spend his money on another big hitter?…I don’t.
What do you think is on Matt’s mind right now?
The same thing that has always been on his mind.
I was left with no option but to try and use my backup desktop computer. It’s damn near as old as my daughter Mylee, and she’ll be eight soon..
I got that thing up and crawling, but it’s just to old.
So after some tweaking, fixing, and replacing, I’m up online again using my old broken laptop.
I’m trying to look at this with the glass being half full, so on a positive note let me say at least my piece of schit computer lasted until the end of the regular season.
Speaking of broke and finished, who do you think the Rockies are going to get rid of before next season?
Do you like the way I just slid that in there? I got skills.
He has another year still in Colorado but you know he’s got to be wondering what his market value is? I’m curious.
As a Rockies ticket purchaser, I only help pay the Rockies salaries, I don’t sign their paychecks, but I think they should find a way to keep Holliday here. I’d pay a buck more for a Rockpile ticket.
He likes it here, keep the man happy, and pay him what he’s worth. Even that might not be enough.
Next seasons pitching should be interesting. Brian Fuentes (super southpaw) is coming off his best season and is now a free agent.
Brian Fuentes = reliable closer
Yep, he is going to cost some the Rockies some green, but pitching has ALWAYS haunted this team and this guy does what you pay him to do, win games.
In my opinion he is only expendable if it involves some kind of deal that keeps Matt Holliday in Colorado.
Jeff Francis never found his groove, and then he went on the DL for his shoulder. He struggled when he came off the DL, but was seemingly back in stride toward the end of the season.
If we could guarantee a solid pitching season (we all wish), there is no telling what the Rockies could do in this Division.
Now let me take this full circle. In my opinion, Matt Holliday is only expendable if we bring in a BIG name pitcher. See,…it works both ways.
Yorvit vs Chris. Hurdle will probably split their action 50/50 until an injury or performance dictates which one will assume the position. Both these guys are excellent catchers and the Rockies are lucky they have them both to choose from.
Where will Garrett Atkins wind up next season? This one is a pickle.
Garrett starts the season on third base. Todd Helton gets hurt midway through the year, Garrett takes over first base and does a great job.
Ian Stewart takes over third and does a better job than Garrett did.
Ian is younger, more athletic and gets paid less than Garrett.
On Garrett’s side, one thing he has that Ian doesn’t is a proven track record. Only time will tell for Ian.
I have more plenty more questions as do you I’m sure. I also have five months to kill.
Tell me what you think the Rockies should do for next season.
Jorge De La Rosa.
I can’t remember how many times this season I’ve watched this kid blow a baseball game. Jorge had a serious bad start this season and his ERA by the All Star Break was 7.26.
I like Jorge. Hunter and I got his autograph early on this season and I mentioned back then how laid back and polite he was.
I was just checking out his stats. He is now 12-10 for the season and his ERA is 4.92. He’s bringing it on strong and doing exactly what every other Rockies player is.
Trying to get noticed. Only three games left.
Matt Holliday (Rockies please keep him), hit a single in the first inning to score Tulowitzki.
Matt this season has hit .321 with 25 home runs and 88 RBI. He has played 139 games, had 539 at bats and managed 173 hits.
Matt will only continue to get better as a player. There was a dramatic improvment in his outfielding this season.
He is physically healthy and lives a clean lifestyle.
Matt has a lot of good years left in him
Fact: In June 2006 Clint broke his collarbone carrying a large slab of meat given to him by Todd Helton upstairs to his apartment.
It was probably deer or elk meat.
Clint hit a solo homer in the seventh inning to give him eleven home runs for the season. That is a personal record for him topping his previous best of 10 in 2005. Contrats Clint..See you next season.
Rockies square up against the D-Backs in a couple of hours. On the mound for the Rockies is Jason Hirsh.
Have you seen the size of this guy?
He is 6’8 250, bats right, throws right.
He’s been a relief pitcher only three times this season. Here’s a quote from Jason.
“I’m going to have fun, at this point of the season, that’s pretty much my mind-set. Have fun and enjoy the rest of the year. This season has been trying, the most trying of my career. At this point, what have I got left to lose?”
He’s right, who knows..lets see how it goes..
No winner on the Baseball Card Trivia #2.
Did I make it too tough?
I made a bet about a week ago with a guy I work with. He’s a Giants fan. The bet was on whichever one of our teams wins more games from that point forward till the end of the season. The loser would have to wear the winners jersey one full day at work.
Today is the start of a three game set with the Giants. As of pre-game today, I’m one game up…I’ll keep you posted.
I see that Matt Holliday is in contention for the MLB Hank Aaron Award for offensive excellence.
He deserves it. He has always been among the elite in the NL as far as batting average, home runs and RBI are concerned.
I have faith that the Rockies still have something to prove and are not quitters. Everyone at work knows how much I support the Rockies and I DON’T want to have to wear that Giants jersey.
