Normally I don’t get too excited when opening my email. That wasn’t the case today. After finishing my physical therapy in Boulder (props to my Physical Therapist Erin), I headed home to Nederland, logged in and checked my Yahoo account. Sitting there in my inbox was an email from Tom Helmer of FSN Rocky Mountain/Root Sports with a header that said “Want to be on TV?”
That email header not only made me smile but it got my full attention. Here’s what’s going on. During the Rockies Fest FSN/Root Sports will be shooting a Rockies promotional commericial.
Tom asked that I round up the Rantics that will be attending Rockies Fest and we all head over to the FSN/Root Sports booth. What will happen then is you will read a few lines and then you’ll be asked you to comment on some of your favorite Rockies moments and what it’s like to be a Rockies fan.
Simple right? Maybe but…
You can bet they’re only going to use the best ones so I suggest really putting some thought into this. How cool would it be to be in a commercial plugging the Rockies?
I don’t know about you but I’ve yet to tire seeing myself on TV. To date that consists of a couple of quick flashes on TV while I was chasing a home run balls, the FSN Top of the Rockies Fan Choice show and hanging out at Coors Field for the post game show so I can make sure the Rockpile Ranter jersey gets some TV luv.
The Rantics are the most loyal, hardcore and supportive group of baseball fans out there. I anticipate we’re going to do a great job on Saturday for FSN/Root Sports.
Rantics… Be ready and have fun with this I know the kids and I will.
Get your best Rockies gear together and I’ll see you at Rockies Fest on Saturday morning.
I’m “D” The Rockpile Ranter…Just doing more of that cool stuff with the Rantics I keep telling you about…
Happy New Year Rantics!
The Tom Helmer of FSN Rocky Mountain interview/Rantic get together is back on. It will be held at Champps at 8325 Park Meadows Center Drive in Littleton at 5-6pm on Saturday January 8th.
Remember folks this is all non-formal. Tom’s interview might take ten minutes and the rest of the time you can ask Tom questions, have a drink, eat some dinner if you want (I am), or just hang out and drink a hot chocolate.
Krista and I will be there, I really hope to see you there.
I gotta say I’m glad the Rockies were able to sign Carlos Gonzalez. I know it’s a lot of money, but seven years for 80 million is a bargain for Cargo. I figure Cargo took this deal is because he’s happy here and he’s extremely well liked by the Rockies fans.
A total win/win situation for the Rockies.
From everything I’ve witnessed this season Cargo is well on his way to becoming a superstar and it’s nice to know he’ll call Colorado home for the next seven years.
So we’ve got Cargo and Tulo to build a team around. That my friends is a great start 🙂
I also read that former Rockie Brad Hawpe is soon to be a Padre.
That ought to make Queen Geri happy as she’ll at least get to see him several times a season.
I’m “D” The Rockpile Ranter and it’s gonna be a good year.
12/21/10 I have a great idea, a couple of them.
I’ve been using the term “Rant Regulars” to refer to the tight group of folks who hang out at Coors Field (usually in the pavilion) paid or un-paid who frequent this blog.
I only used that term for lack of a better one.
I think I have a better one..(With your approval) I’d like to refer to the “Rant Regulars” as the “ROCKPILE RANTICS”.
RANTICS just seems more fitting to me. Let me know what you think please?
Every one of you are Fanatical about the Rockies and you read the Rant.
Please note: If you are not a Rockies fan and you read the Rockpile Rant you do not have to consider yourself a RANTIC.
Please by all means continue to read 🙂
Ok..My other great idea…
In the very near future I plan to have a link on my sidebar that you can click and:
Meet the Rockpile Rantics.
If you consider yourself a “Rockpile Rantic” and you’re proud to show it… Email me a picture of you or If you’d like I can use one of mine.
Send in a small bio and include whatever you’d like to say about yourself.
In addition…Tell me how long you have been a Rockies fan.
Who your favorite Rockies player is.
Your favorite Rockies moment, story or maybe your favorite Rockies piece of memorabilia.
If you’re a snagger you can send your previous years stats…Home Run catches, batting practice snags, or maybe tell us about something special a player gave you, etc.
If you wanted to say something to the Rockies “Meet The Rockpile Rantics” would be your chance. Remember this is a Pro-Rockies blog 🙂
Please send the information to: THEROCKPILERANTER@YAHOO.COM
The RANTICS have been kind to me so I’d like to give something back. This would be the Rantics little sub-section of the Rockpile Rant. Let the world and the Rockies Community know exactly what kind of Rockies fan you are.
Let’s have fun with this.
I’d like the first Rantic inducted to be Dan…He was the first one to ever talk to me about the Rockpile Rant and has been extremely supportive of the Rant, myself and my family for over three years now.
Remember last week when some the RANTICS and I went to the Celtic Tavern to watch the FSN Top of the Rockies Fans Choice Awards?
I mentioned in that blog entry called…
… that I would love an opportunity to interview the FSN Rocky Mountain crew.
I also mentioned in that same entry that Tom Helmer (Rockies pre-game and post-game host) told me that he’d check out the Rant.
The kind tone of his email and the fact that he actually sent me an email blew me away.
I plug the Rockpile Rant all the time and most folks forget about it before they get home. Tom took the time to check it out and even write.
Thanks Tom, I appreciate that.
I have a handful of what I think are really good questions..I’d like some help and participation from the RANTICS…I’d like all of you to send me a couple of your best questions. I’ll ask as many of them as I have time to.
Maybe he can explain to us exactly what will be happening to FSN Rocky Mountain when it turns into Root Sports in the spring.?
This opportunity will be cool. No details have been worked out and I’m in no rush.
I’m looking for some good questions so step up “RANTICS“, give me your best and I promise you’ll get mine.
Also “Pitch Your Team” 2011 is up and going and feel free to submit your videos at any point. This season’s prizes haven’t been decided on yet but I’ll have a full entry explaining everything in January. It’s really the same as last year.
Send me your best video (Five minutes or less) “Pitching your Team”. This is open to all MLB teams and you don’t have to have be a blogger to participate. All you need is a video camera and a stong will to promote your team. I usually finish my video around mid-May.
No I can’t win, I just like to make videos that include my friends and the Rockies..
Don’t miss out this season…Judging will take place during the All-Star Break.
I really could overwhelm you with pictures and a monster blog today, and as much as I’d like to do just that, tomorrow is the Rockies home opener and my folks are arriving in town so I’m a short on time but I’ll do my best.
Let me tell you that this Power Aid contest that Hunter won was really a good time and all of the folks who helped with this promotion were really on their game.
Inside the backpacks were a couple bottles of PowerAid, wrist bands, two T-Shirts, a Power Aid water bottle, a towel and an Autographed Carmelo Anthony jersey.
This jersey was the real deal too. Not a replica jersey like the one I was sport’n.
That was really cool of them and one helluva way to get greeted.
Hunter and I were floored.
Hunter told me later, “Dad I know you want this jersey but I want to have it framed”. I told him I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want an autographed Melo jersey but I didn’t want “his” jersey.
I tell you what though..I’m jealous as hell :).
After the presentation of the backpacks we all headed over to the trailer where they do all of the editing for the basketball game. They were really nice to us and explained in a nutshell what they do before and after the game inside this mobile trailer.
When we finished touring the trailer we walked over to the hallway and that was where we waited for Melo to show meet us..
While we were waiting I saw Anthony Carter walk by, Renaldo Balkman, Chauncey Billups and Chris Anderson (Birdman).
When Melo walked in as he passd me he saw I had on his # jersey and he gave me a hand slap.
Then he walked up to Hunter and the other winner and said hi and talked to them a little bit.
Hunter had a few questions he wanted to ask and Melo was REALLY cool about answering them. Melo was totally a class act tonight and it was really nice to see Hunter keep his stuff together and not get nervous and forget how to talk.
Here’s a video of Hunter asking Melo a few questions:
Then we headed out to the court to wait for Chris Marlowe (FSN play by-play announcer) to give meet the kids and tell them a little bit about what he does.
He shook my hand I said “Nice to meet you Mr. Marlowe” and he hit me back with “Call me Chris”. Chris I know you’re a busy guy but thanks for spending some time with “my guy”.
He writes a really good blog for the Nuggets and you have no idea how bad I wanted to slip him a Ranter card and talk some blogging with him. I reminded myself that tonight was Hunter’s night not mine.
Hunter was so good and so polite to all of these new people. I was really proud of him.
Here’s video of Chris explaining some stuff to the kids:
Enjoy the picture show and half-time video of “The Rubber Man”. Let me warn you about the Rubber Man, this video is way beyond strange.
We headed up to our seats on the first level Row 15 and watched the Nuggets go back and forth a little bit with the Thunder. In the end the Nuggets were just too strong with Melo scoring 31 points, JR smith scoring 17 and Nene scoring 21.
Nuggets win 122-110 and I would like to thank PowerAid, FSN Rocky Mountain, Altitude Sports, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Marlowe, Pepsi Center the Denver Nuggets and anyone else who may have had a hand in this once in a lifetime experience for Hunter.
Best beard of the evening————>
Tomorrow is the day, opening day at Coors Field.
I work half a day, go home for an hour then head out to Coors field for day one of Hagg’n, tagg’n, snagg’n and making memories so I can be bragg’n.
I’m D,….The rhyming Ranter with the funky fresh banter. Old Skool, but not an old fool.
