Tracking the Antics of the Rantics

12/21/10                          I have a great idea, a couple of them.

New coke can.jpg I’ve been using the term “Rant Regulars” to refer to the tight group of folks who hang out at Coors Field (usually in the pavilion) paid or un-paid who frequent this blog.

I only used that term for lack of a better one.

I think I have a better one..(With your approval) I’d like to refer to the “Rant Regulars” as the “ROCKPILE RANTICS”.

RANTICS just seems more fitting to me. Let me know what you think please?

Every one of you are Fanatical about the Rockies and you read the Rant.

Please note: If you are not a Rockies fan and you read the Rockpile Rant you do not have to consider yourself a RANTIC.

Please by all means continue to read ūüôā

                                               Ok..My other great idea…

Peanut butter and Jelly in a jar.jpg                                      Kidd’n…Ewww, do people actually eat this?

In the very near future I plan to have a link on my sidebar that you can click and:

                               Meet the Rockpile Rantics.

If you consider yourself a “Rockpile Rantic” and you’re proud to show it… Email  me a picture of you or If you’d like I can use one of mine.

Send in a small bio and include whatever you’d like to say about yourself.

In addition…Tell me how long you have been a Rockies fan.

Who your favorite Rockies player is.

Your favorite Rockies moment, story or maybe your favorite Rockies piece of memorabilia.

If you’re a snagger you can send your previous years stats…Home Run catches, batting practice snags, or maybe tell us about something special a player gave you, etc.

If you wanted to say something to the Rockies “Meet The Rockpile Rantics” would be your chance. Remember this is a Pro-Rockies blog ūüôā

Please send the information to: THEROCKPILERANTER@YAHOO.COM

The RANTICS have been kind to me so I’d like to give something back. This would be the Rantics little sub-section of the Rockpile Rant. Let the world and the Rockies Community know exactly what kind of Rockies fan you are.

                                              Let’s have fun with this.

I’d like the first Rantic inducted to be Dan…He was the first one to ever talk to me about the Rockpile Rant and has been extremely supportive of the Rant, myself and my family for over three years now.

As I get bio’s emailed to me you will be able to click the link on my sidebar and see who it is and what they have to say.
Thank You.gif

Remember last week when some the RANTICS and I went to the Celtic Tavern to watch the FSN Top of the Rockies Fans Choice Awards?

I mentioned in that blog entry called…

FSN Rocky Mountain and dinner were both winners

… that I would love an opportunity to interview the FSN Rocky Mountain crew.

I also mentioned in that same entry that Tom Helmer (Rockies pre-game and post-game host) told me that he’d check out the Rant.

Tom Helmer on the wall.jpg check it out.gifWell Tom was nice enough to send me an email stating that he checked out the Rant and really liked it. He also mentioned that he would totally do an interview.

The kind tone of his email and the fact that he actually sent me an email blew me away.

I plug the Rockpile Rant all the time and most folks forget about it before they get home. Tom took the time to check it out and even write.

                                         Thanks Tom, I appreciate that.

I have a handful of what I think are really good questions..I’d like some help and participation from the RANTICS…I’d like all of you to send me a couple of your best questions. I’ll ask as many of them as I have time to.

What would you do.jpg                            What would you ask Tom if you had a chance to?

Maybe he can explain to us exactly what will be happening to FSN Rocky Mountain when it turns into Root Sports in the spring.?

This opportunity will be cool. No details have been worked out and I’m in no rush.

I’m looking for some good questions so step up “RANTICS“, give me your best and I promise you’ll get mine.

Also “Pitch Your Team” 2011 is up and going and feel free to submit your videos at any point. This season’s prizes haven’t been decided on yet but I’ll have a full entry explaining everything in January. It’s really the same as last year.

Send me your best video (Five minutes or less) “Pitching your Team”. This is open to all MLB teams and you don’t have to have be a blogger to participate. All you need is a video camera and a stong will to promote your team. I usually finish my video around mid-May.

No I can’t win, I just like to make videos that include my friends and the Rockies..

Don’t miss out this season…Judging will take place during the All-Star Break.

I’m “D” The Rockpile Ranter…Happy Holidays to all of you.

Least I can say ..”I got to see Giambi play”

12/14/10

¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† The Rockpile Rant Salutes “Jason Giambi”

There is no athelete I have enjoyed photographing more the last two seasons than Jason Giambi. When I heard he was picked up by the Rockies I was one happy blogger.

I think the timing of Giambi becoming a Rockie was perfect. He was the right fix/fit at the moment and proved his worth right from the beginning. Thumbnail image for Giambi Tunnel.jpg

Below¬†is my favorite picture of Giambi that¬†I have taken. It is one of only two things I’d love to get the slugger to autograph. I took this picture on 4/24/2010

Thumbnail image for Giambi Big Screen 9-12-10.jpgThe other thing I’d love to have him sign is the homerun ball he hit into the batters eye inside Isotopes park in Albquerque on 4/4/10.

Here’s the actual video of me doing the deed…I just had to.

If you’ve never seen it, during that game Brad Eldred and Jason Giambi both hit home runs into the batters eye. Long story short, I couldn’t leave a Giambi homerun ball just sitting there…

Here’s the video of me sucessfully acquiring both baseballs.

I was able to get Brad Eldred to sign his homerun ball early on in the season.
Thumbnail image for Brad Eldred autograph 5-5-10.jpg I still have not had an opportunity to get Jason to sign either his homerun ball or my picture of him in the air.

Most of the folks I know who were able to get Jason to sign for them managed to get it done while Jason was playing in Colorado Springs for the AAA Sky Sox. They all said he was totally cool and stopped and chatted with them and would sign almost anything.

When¬†I¬†tell you¬†I like a player there is actually a lot that goes into my thought process. Statistics don’t mean a whole lot to me. I¬†spend a lot of time at Coors Field and I get to see most all the players in different stages of the season or the day.

You know, goofing off having fun, taking hits during BP, warm-ups, the interactions with the fans just before the game starts.

So I watch how the players act around the other players and how they interact with the fans who so desperately just want them to come over and say hi, or sign a memento for them.

I feel so fortunate to have been able to see Giambi play here at Coors.  There are only a few Rockies who can pump up Coors Field in seconds like seeing Giambi grab that bat.

Giambi could, he did it every time he walked up to the plate.

I’m not sure but for some reason Jim Tracy liked to put Giambi in the game right about the time I was in line for the facilities.Thumbnail image for Jason Giambi 6-19-10.jpg¬†¬†Two of the¬†all-time finest first basemen in baseball and we were¬†lucky enough to watch these dudes live.

Giambi Helton 5-22-10.jpg¬†You just know Jason Giambi has something to say to¬†every player. I’d love to have an hour to pick his brain.

I bet just being his presence for an hour would be highly entertaining and extremely educational.

Giambi and Fowler 10.jpg¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† Alanna Rizzo interviewing Jason after his walk-off winThumbnail image for Giambi postgame interview 9-12-10.jpg¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† ¬† ¬†Giambi’s walk off Homer¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†

Giambi was just a natural fit around here.Thumbnail image for Cowboy Giambi 7-9-10.jpg
Thumbnail image for Mustach Giambi and Spilborghs.jpg

Barmes, Spilborghs, Giambi 7-1-10.jpg

Baylor and Giambi 5-16-10.jpg

Although I can’t personally brag Giambi up for signing my stuff and I always watched to see if he would come out¬†and warm-up pre-game.¬†What really happened was I devoted many hours to a¬†nobel cause (so I thought)¬†and I just never happened.

BUT SURPRISE…At least for me there is a¬†lesson in all this is. I’m realizing¬†that in¬†reality what I¬†cherish more is the memory of seeing him hit that ball and me¬†climbing down after¬†it at game’s end.

I could possibly lose the Giambi baseball but I’ll never forget the memory. Especially not if there’s video proof :).

Jason.. “Thanks for the good times, giving me the chance to see you play and making a brotha see something in a new light.¬†Believe me¬†that ain’t easy because I wear some dark sunglasses. Good Luck “G” wherever you may be.

I’m “D” The Rockpile Ranter…¬†GO¬†ROCKIES!!

swimwear 1.jpgI really thought “Pitch Your Team” would be huge(it will be). Personally I love every aspect of making videos.

Props go out to R-Luv’s team for taking first place.

Below is R-Luv’s son showing you the “Pitch Your Team Video Contest” prizes for first place.

I like the sponsoring the Rockpile Rant’s Pitch Your Team Video contest. I’m not a guy that gives up easy. If you don’t believe me go back and look at my first six months of blog entries…Not even one comment…Yet I kept chugg’n.

So on that inspirational note..Get ready for…“Pitch Your Team 2”

There are a lot of talanted baseball fans with a lot of creative ideas. For Pitch Your Team 2 I’m going to give you plenty of time to ponder, plan out and create your video.

I’ll start taking video submissions for “Pitch Your Team 2” when the World Series is over.

                                                      GO ROCKIES  !!
rockies number 1.jpg
The video judging will take place on Opening Day 2011.

Official rules, prizes and judges will be announced at the end of the World Series.

                                              Thanks and Good Luck!

I couldn’t have been prouder of the Rockies taking the series against the Dodgers in LA, but I can’t help but think how cool it would be right now to have swept the Blue and been one game closer.

Rockies…We need to sweep the D-Backs and then bring it back home to Coors and unleash some of that Rocky Mountain magic on the (not so big) Giants come this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Friday’s game is the Fireworks game and I’ll be there with my entire crew chill’n on the field.

                                                         I can’t wait.

Rockies…I Want a September to Remember

Dbacks vs Rockies 9-12-10.jpg

I absolutely love September baseball. If you’re a Rockies fan you have good reason to. I swear next season I’m going to skip a few games in July and August just so I can purchase tickets for all of the September games. September is when the Rockies come alive.

The Rockies train of thought must be to rest up as much as they can in the hot summer months. I figure they do this by hiding 5-8 games back staying low profile sneaking up just under the radar. All the while secretly healing up and saving their big energy for the September run.

That may not be exactly true but it makes for a hell of a good story.

I’ve always been a BelieveR but I did catch myself with a mild case of disbelief twice this season. Both times were after abysmal road trips. I questioned the heart of the Rockies. I was upset at some of the lackluster games that I had witnessed. I wanted to see more out of Aaron Cook and Jeff Francis. I thought this might be the year Franklin Morales gets control of his fastball. I was discouraged that Yorvit Torealba let money be the guiding factor in where played. (In the end Yorvit signed with the Padres for much less money than the Rockies offered him). I was also bummed that Brad Hawpe was traded.

But instead of dwelling on that stuff, I’ve spent this season watching Carlos Gonzalez mature and become a monster hitter and top notch fielder and since Miguel Olivo took over catching duties I’ve forgotten Yorvit even existed.

The face of this team may have changed a bit but its heart is still pumping purple baby.

Jim Tracy is in my opinion a genius. I could straight up listen to the guy talk for hours. Jim Tracy spews baseball wisdom in every sentence and his hungry team gobbles it up. It’s no fluke Tracy was voted the NL Manager of the Year.

Jim Tracy has a plan and I’m enjoying watching him get all his ducks in a row.

ducks in a row.jpg                                             Don Baylor is a quiet man.

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Don Baylor 4-24-10.JPG Quiet men who are in charge tend to be quiet because they’ve got an ace up their sleeve. Baylor knows what exactly what he’s doing. He fixed Tulowitzki and now Tulo’s as confident as I’ve ever seen him at the plate and his September batting average shows it.

Enjoy this Rockies fans, it hasn’t always been a given that the Rockies will be right in there till the end. I must say I like that fact that the Rockies demand and get respect now.

I’m proud and honored to be the Number One Fan MLBlogger for the Rockies for the last two seasons .

                                                    GO ROCKIES !!!

Today there was no batting practice, that kind of sucked. Other than a few D-backs out warming up the field was empty.

The problem was we spent the night in Broomfield and the prizes were up at the cabin in Nederland….My Bad.

So to not make her wait any longer I will be mailing the prizes along with something cool for her son. R-Luv send me a picture when it arrives please?…Thanks a bunch.

Bottom of the ninth, score tied 2-2; Jason Giambi steps up to the plate. I and every Rockies fan breathing knew what was going to happen next.

I told Hunter “Giambi’s gonna hit a homerun just you watch.”

Giambi blasts a homerun into the same row that Hunter and I are sitting in. Unfortunately for me the slugger smacked it to the other side of the pavilion. It didn’t matter, that homerun gave the Rockies their 10th win in a row, boosted a somewhat fragile Giambi ego, moved the Rockies to within a game and a half of their Division and proved AGAIN to the baseball world that this club owns f’kn Rocktember.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to a game or at least if feels that way. I had tickets but had to miss Tuesday and Wednesday’s games due to an injury. I really hate that.

I discovered something called sciatica. Not fun stuff especially if you enjoy having feeling in your legs.

Because of this, I’ll have to change my snagg’n game plan, at least until I’m back to 100%.  Instead of being able to run and chase baseballs, I’ll have to use my superior tracking skills to be a little more choosy on the batting practice snags I attempt.

Such is life I guess…Gett’n old sucks.

Today I got lucky and snagged the first one of BP within a minute of entering the pavilion. It was a fairly easy catch, the only hiccup was manuevering between the seats to get to the rail in time.

I gave that ball to a young Rockies fan who was nearby. I can always use karma points :).

Shortly after my handoff, Rant Regular Ken snagged a Tulowitzki BP homer.

Here’s video of it shot by Dan

I believe Ken’s total for the day was two, nice job.

Mike is back from his big East Coast baseball trip.

He mentioned he took a thousand pictures including some of “interesting fans” along the way..

Tulo Goes Off Man and Mylee meets Hoffman

RANT REGULARS: First let me apologize for taking so long to get this entry posted. I’ve had it half done for a week now but with school starting and a super busy schedule real life takes over and sometimes you just have to get other stuff done.

So without further ado I present…

8/15/10                         Rockies vs Brewers Game Threebrewers vs rockies 8-13-10.jpg

It’s been a while since my two little ones and I attended a game together. Today was an afternoon Sunday game, a bit hot but no chance of rain. We were ready for a day of family fun at Coors Field.

Hunter and Mylee 8-15-10.jpg
Here’s two more kids, but I don’t have to feed these two.  Robert and Bob 8-15-10.jpg   First thing I noticed was his bike, but the hair thing he’s got going on is interesting too.
flower bike 8-15-10.jpgHere’s Hunter and Mylee going through the tunnel onto the field. Soon I’ll get bored of shooting video of this but until then sorry… ūüôā

Guess who was at today’s game?..Both R-LUV and LUVMYROX..It was nice to see them.R-Luv and LUVMYROX 8-15-10.jpg

This series is tied. The Rockies opted not to take batting practice on the field today so after a short wait the Brewers started taking hits.Brewers.JPG The kids and I wanted to get autographs today but with BP going on we changed our minds and stayed in the pavilion. I managed to snag two balls today.

Neither of them were caught so the first ball I gave to Mylee. The second ball was hit into the tunnel so after I snagged it I handed it to a little girl who was leaning over the railing.

As batting practice was ending I noticed Trevor Hoffman standing over in the corner of the outfield about to sign for someone so I suggested Mylee take her ball and go over there.

It was worth it…Here’s what she brought back. Hoffman’s a nice guy.

With the game tied in bottom of the ninth and Dexter Fowler on second base Troy Tulowitzki steps up to to the plate.

Tulo swings 8-15-10.jpg It was in the air, the day after a loss, the game on the line, the crowd on their feet. Tulo does it again.

With perfect Tulowitzki timing he hits a line drive over Rickie Weeks head (good cause Rickie’s had the Rockies number the last two games), scoring Dexter Fowler and winning the game and the series.

8/13/10                         Brewers vs Rockies Game One

brewers vs rockies 8-13-10.jpgAttending the game with me today was Brad. This was his first Rockies batting practice and his first game this season.

I was shutout but Brad had a good day. He managed to straight up catch one (gave it away to a kid), then wrestled Robert for his second snag.

This game was starting to seem like another one of those Rockies losses where the Rockies just seem uninterested.

That was until the bottom of the 8th inning .

Tulo steps up to the plate and launches his 11th homerun of the season into left field scoring three. Ryan Braun came damn close to catching that ball at the wall.Tulo at bat 8-13-10.jpg
